Email marketing continues to be one of the best marketing strategies for generating revenue from both returning customers and new customers.
But most people starting a business don’t know what they’re missing if they fail to utilize this marketing strategy. Businesses often turn to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google + and Instagram before they even consider looking at what they could be doing to help their business through email marketing.
However, the fact remains, email marketing has more potential to increase profits, create brand recognition, get a better response and bring in repeat business than most traditional and social media marketing. With all the benefits that come from email marketing, many businesses simply don’t put it to use for them because they don’t know where or how to start. But hopefully, this can help.
So how can you begin using email marketing right when you open your doors or launch your Website?
Step 1 – Start Collecting Email Addresses
Obviously, if you’re email marketing is going to go anywhere, you’re going to need people to send your messages to. And collecting email addresses is the first step you’ll want to take to build your email list.
Collecting email addresses can be as easy as asking for people to write them down during checkout at your location, or you can ask for them and enter them yourself. Want to use a tablet to collect email addresses? You can do that too.
But with a Website (because you’re most likely going to want a Website for your business) collecting email addresses should be more than that. You can add a simple form to your site’s header, footer or even as a pop-up. Make sure it’s noticeable when people visit your site.
Step 2 – Start Offering Something to Those Who Sign Up
By offering an incentive to those who sign up for your email list, you’re going to be able to build your list faster, but you’re also going to give yourself a way to encourage those who sign up actually open your email.
If you offer a 10% discount or a FREE item, let those signing up know they’ll get the coupon or discount in their email so they have to actually open your email to get the incentive. This is going to help your email land in the inbox as opposed to the spam or junk fold down the road when you email them again.
Step 3 – Send Them to a Quality Success Page
It’s sufficient enough to simply have a pop up show when people click the submit button to give you their email so they know they’re signed up. You have the opportunity to thank them for signing up and let them know to check their email and what not, but this can be so much more.
You have the opportunity to really add value to your site here. Why not include some sharing options? Also include your social media here to encourage more followers. The options here are endless and really allow you to take advantage of an audience very much interested in what you’re offering.
Step 4 – Send them a Great Welcome Email
Like your landing page after someone clicks to give you there email address, you can just use this email to send a generic welcome and thanks for signing up email, or you can really make this work for you by adding sharing, encouraging social media action and more. Again the options are endless here but far too many businesses don’t take advantage of this at all.
Step 5 – Add Your Sign Up to Facebook
This step is great for anyone, and perfect for anyone else. Yes, it should be used by everyone whether you have the most advanced Website for your business or you just work through Etsy or eBay.
Through Facebook you can use a different form, incentive and even landing page or you can just recycle the process from your Website. Either approach works with Facebook.
What I love about this is that fact that you don’t need a Website necessarily to still collect email addresses which makes this perfect for any Etsy owners, eBay sellers or anyone else without an official Website.
Step 6 – Test Everything
Testing is the key to any successful Website looking to grow and improve and should also be for your email marketing program. You have the option to test everything from your sign up for to your landing pages and your emails.
